Registration for Shakespeare Golf Tournament Now Open

Shakespeare will be swinging a golf club on Labour Day Monday.

Golfers can now register for the first ever St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival Fundraiser Golf Tournament, sponsored by Strader Motor Sales. The tournament is to help raise funds for the annual Shakespeare festival.

On Monday, September third, a shotgun start will kick things off at 12:30 p-m at the Prescott Golf Club. Canadian Tire has donated four Adirondack chairs for the closest to the hole competition in the tournament. On hole nine, the prize for a hole-in-one will be a car.

David Dargie is the Media Liason for the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival Golf Tournament and says they’re also trying to set up a spot along the course for the public to come and watch the tournament.

Dargie adds, as a committee, they haven’t set a number in terms of a goal but anything between five and ten thousand dollars raised would be a bonus.

He adds every year the Prescott Golf Club donates green fees for Labour Day Monday, and that’s how this tournament idea came about.

Richard Sheridan Willis is the Artistic Director for the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival and says being able to combine his love of golfing and the festival is what makes him most excited about this tournament.

Anyone is welcome to register for the tournament. Registration costs $65 for Prescott Golf Club members and $90 for non-members.

Golfers can register at the Prescott Golf Club on 900 Boundary Street or at the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival office on 206 King Street West.
