Rideau River hits moderate low water status

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) has upgraded its low water statement to moderate severity. The notice was sent out today. Rainfall in the last 90 days is sitting at about 60 per cent of the normal amount for this time of year.

Rain forecasted for much of next week is not expected to have a significant impact. The long range forecast includes above normal temperatures and below average rainfall.

Streamflows are low for this time of year but remain above critical levels. Rideau Canal reservoir lakes are at levels typical of late September.

Conditions are expected to continue declining across the watershed. People are urged to conserve water until conditions improve. The RVCA will continue monitoring the watershed.
