Donations at Food Bank are Low in Summer Months

The Food for All Foodbank in Prescott is experiencing its average lull in donations right now.

Bonnie Pidgeon Cougler is the Executive Director of the South Grenville Food Banks and says traditionally the food bank has a lower supply of food in July and August. She adds they aren’t empty shelf by any means yet, but they’re not seeing a lot of donations.

One of the biggest concerns is children since there are no school programs to help during the summer.

The most common items the food bank needs include: minute rice, sugar, cans of ravioli, stove top items and instant potatoes.

Pidgeon Cougler says there’s several ways people can donate.  By donating money, people can receive a tax receipt for a donation of anything over $10. Pidgeon Cougler also says another benefit to donating money is the dollar will stretch further thanks to local businesses.

Money can also be sent online through Canadahelp.org.

Food drop offs are accepted Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:00pm. Pidgeon Cougler notes if those hours don’t work they can make other arrangements for food donations.

Another way people can give to the food bank is by bringing in foods from their gardens.

There are three Food For All Food Banks in the South Grenville area: Prescott, Cardinal and Spencerville. Prescott’s Food For All food bank is located at 136 Henry Street West.
