The Grenville County OPP are reminding people to only dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. Within a single day, beginning yesterday morning, OPP Officers responded to five 9-1-1 pocket dial calls. A sixth call to 9-1-1, involving a racoon in a backyard, was also received. Constable Suzanne Runciman says false 9-1-1 calls are an issue.
When the police get a 9-1-1 call, two officers have to respond. False 9-1-1 calls may place others with real emergencies at risk.  Runciman says it happens more often than people think.Â
The OPP ask the public to only use 9-1-1 for emergencies, which is when the safety of people or property is at risk and requires immediate assistance.
For non-emergency calls, people can reach the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122 or 1-888-310-1133 for the hearing impaired.
