Michael Barrett seeking Conservative Party nomination

The Conservative Party has another candidate to consider for the federal nomination. Edwardsburgh-Cardinal resident Michael Barrett will seek the party’s nomination for the upcoming by-election in Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.

The seat on Parliament Hill has been empty since the death of MP Gord Brown in May. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has not called a by-election to date.

Barrett is a Councillor for the Township of Edwardsburgh-Cardinal. He says he shares the values of the Conservative Party which stands with families, seniors, farmers and law-abiding gun owners. Barrett was a leading proponent against the creation of a new dump in Edwardsburgh-Cardinal.

Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark says he’s seen personally how Barrett is a tireless advocate for those he represents as a Councillor.

Barrett was initially working to nominate Senator Bob Runciman as a unity candidate prior to his announcement that he would not be running.

Also seeking the Conservative nomination is Colin Brown, nephew of the late Gord Brown, who announced on June 11.
