UPDATE: The Severe Thunderstorm Watch was lifted.

There’s a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect.

Environment Canada has issued the watch, saying conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts that could reach 90 to 100 km/h.

The service says that the thunderstorms could develop this afternoon as a cold front moves through the area.

Environment Canada reminds residents that strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings and break tree branches. Hail and heavy rain are also possible. It also says that these severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.

Environment Canada says you should continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by the service.
