Changes Will Continue on Wood Street East With Some Conditions in Place

Prescott Town Hall will be allowing changes at some lots on Wood Street East, as long as conditions are met.

The lots between 133 and 139 Wood Street East have four semi-detached homes on them, with secondary suites being put into the basement. According to CAO Pierre Mercier they’re going to end up with eight dwellings in those buildings, which is something not currently in the zoning by-law that should be.

Mercier says property owners didn’t have to apply to the town but they have so that once they sell the dwelling anyone living in the basement will have a guaranteed parking space. The property owners are being allowed to move forward with their plans as long as they meet three conditions.

An acceptable reference plan must be submitted to the town, a grading or drainage plan must be submitted for approval and a fence must be built that will stop people in the surrounding lots from seeing car movement in the parking lot.

According to the CAO this matter was heard by the Planning Advisory Committee and the neighbours are upset because what was originally a lot with one small dwelling has become eight. He adds that the primary concerns were with drainage and car lights shining in windows because there is a small hill leading to the back parking area.

Mercier finished by saying there was nothing they could do to stop the secondary suite from developing.
