One CECCE School Fully Adopts the MATIS Vocation

One school in the French Catholic school board has adopted an entirely new vocation.

Roger-Saint-Denis’ Catholic Elementary now operates entirely under the MATIS principle. The school board’s Super Intendent of Education Danielle Chatelain says that students focus on problem solving in the 21st century using mathematics, arts, technology, engineering and sciences.

According to Chatelain this is not the traditional classroom where teachers are the ‘masters of knowledge’. They’re trying to promote collaboration, while encouraging students to be active in learning. Chatelain says students will identify projects that interest them.

CECCE Board Chair Johanne Lacombe says they’re proud to be the first francophone school board in Ontario to offer the vocation. Adding it allows schools to guide students in a time of access to information, new technology and knowledge.
