The Town of Prescott has Been Approved for Funding from the Health Kids Community Grant

The Town of Prescott will be receiving some funding thanks to the Healthy Kids Community Grant program.

Councillor Leanne Burton says the money is coming through the Power Off and Play line of funding, which was meant to limit the amount of time children spent looking at video screens. According to Councillor Burton the town is planning to use the funding to build a recreation lending library in Centennial Park. Residents would be able to sign out recreational equipment during the summer months to encourage local children to spend time playing outside.

She says they are still in talks with the local Health Unit about how the program will roll out, but they hope a finalised report can be presented during the next two weeks. She finished by saying they don’t know exactly how much they’re receiving.

Town Hall also hopes to partner with local sponsors so they can expand the lending library. That would allow them to purchase more equipment, and maybe even equipment for other seasons.
