UCDSB Board of Trustees Chair Jeff McMillian Not Seeking Another Term

The Upper Canada District School Board has announced Board of Trustee’s Chair Jeff McMillian will not be running for another term.

In a letter from the board’s Director of Education and Secretary Stephen Sliwa revealed McMillian would not be seeking another term and that he would be finishing his duties as both chair and local trustee for Ward 5 on November 30th. McMillian was elected chair in 2014 and Sliwa says he led them through some critical moments; including re-balancing the annual budget and hiring a new Director of Education and Chief Executive Officer.

According to Sliwa he has enjoyed working with McMillian and praises his dedicated commitment to the school board as a leader and volunteer. He adds that they can continue to expect the same support for the rest of the time he is in office.

The move comes after over 40 years serving children and schools in the Upper Canada District School Board. McMillian started as a teacher in 1977 at the former Leeds and Grenville Board of Education before moving to the UCDSB in 1998. He has published articles and two books on effective classroom practice. In 2011 McMillian was elected the Board of Trustee’s first Vice-Chair.
