Gun Amnesty Month in Ontario is Drawing To a Close

The OPP is reminding everyone they have ten more days to turn in unwanted guns or ammunition without consequences.

Acting-Sergeant with the OPP Tina Hunt says they’ve had a good turnout so far but residents who want to take advantage of Gun Amnesty Month still have a chance. The OPP says as of April 16th
their officers have received almost 220 calls requesting pick-ups. Hunt says they’re averaging over one weapon per trip.

Acting-Sergeant Hunt says turning in a weapon doesn’t undo past crimes.

Hunt finished by stressing that under no circumstances should residents bring unwanted firearms to detachments. If you’d like to turn in a weapon or ammunition call their non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122 and officers will arrange to meet with you. Appointments can also be set up online by clicking here.

Gun Amnesty month ends on April 30th.
