Over one hundred employees of the OLG Slots at Rideau Carleton Raceway are walking the picket line this week after being locked out of their workplace. One local man spoke to us about the situation. He says they have been negotiating for months, and they haven’t had a raise in nearly six years.
The Osgoode gaming site is open on reduced hours, from noon to midnight daily, as a skeleton staff of managers has been called to work the floor. Our source says it doesn’t make any sense, because while he is losing about $150 per day, his government employer is losing about $3 million.
The employees are asking for a wage increase that would bring them up to the rate that workers are making at other OLG sites in the region, or about $1 per hour.
