Cargo ships rush to deliver before Seaway closes at end of year

There are more ships in the Great Lakes-Seaway system than usual this season in a push to export grain and construction supplies before the route closes December 30th.

President and CEO of The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation Terence Bowles says the 2015 shipping season has mirrored North American and global economic trends. A rise in global trading and construction activity along with a strong automotive sector has domestic and cross-border transport of cement, stone, gypsum, aluminum and machinery continuing, full speed ahead.
