Former Olympian Equestrian Rider to talk about her book after traumatic injury

Former Olympic Equestrian Rider Claire Smith turned author will be speaking about her book at an upcoming Brockville Public Library event.

The Meet the Author event in February is set for the 17th at 2:00pm.

Smith was competing in September 13th, 1997 in Burghley, England when her horse, Gordon, flipped over a jump, landing hard on the ground. Smith fell nearby and left her with a severe traumatic brain injury.

Smith, who’s from Merrickville, says the book Falling Into Now: Memories of Sport, Traumatic Brain Injury and Education is about her life-changing journey from realizing her equestrian dream to existence with years of an arduous recovery.

The book will be on sale at the library through the month of February and the speaking engagement is free to the public.
