National Cupcake Day set to raise funds for animal welfare

The Ontario SPCA – Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre says you can make a difference with cupcakes.

The organization says National Cupcake Day is coming up on Monday, February 26th. Now in its sixth year, the event is a fundraiser through January and February for local SPCAs and Humane Societies across the country.

Residents are asked to organize Cupcake Day parties on any day leading up to National Cupcake Day. The idea is that guests attending the event donate to the Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre in exchange for a cupcake. If you’d like to get involved, you can register to host a party at nationalcupcakeday.ca. Officials say parties can be held at home, work, school or anywhere where people would enjoy eating cupcakes.

Ontario SPCA – Leeds & Grenville Animal Centre Manager Marianne Carlyle says the funds raised by the event have a significant impact on animal welfare societies in the community. The campaign has raised more than $2.45 million since it first began.
