Leeds and Grenville Warden steps up for Eastern Ontario

The Warden of the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville is stepping up to represent 750,000 taxpayers across rural Eastern Ontario.

Warden Robin Jones, who is also the Mayor of Westport, has been elected as the first woman to chair the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus in 2018. EOWC members vote on a new chair every year. Renfrew County Warden Jennifer Murphy was also voted in as the Vice-Chair.

Jones will now be taking on the role of making sure the caucus’ two priorities for 2018 move forward. The first is to support a nearly $300-million proposal to improve cellular and broadband services across the region. The second is implementing an Eastern Ontario Economic Development Strategy, meant to secure financial support from the province, and address economic development needs. This would be the first regional plan of its kind in Ontario.

Jones says the EOWC has identified the two most important projects for Eastern Ontario, and will be advocating for them at the provincial and federal levels in the coming months.
