Festive RIDE reminder from the OPP

With the holidays right around the corner, police are reminding they’ll be on the lookout for impaired drivers.

That’s the message from the OPP, which says the Festive RIDE campaign runs until January 2nd. During that time, officers will be on the lookout for anyone who may have had a few drinks or done drugs before getting behind the wheel.

Constable Philippe Regamey says impaired drivers can face hefty penalties.

Regamey says anyone convicted of drinking and driving will also see their insurance rates go up considerably.

If you’re 22 years old or younger, you’re also being reminded there are zero tolerance laws in effect when it comes to drinking and driving. If you’re caught, your licence will be suspended immediately.

Regamey is also calling on you to report anyone you suspect of being impaired behind the wheel.

Regamey reminds you to plan ahead if you’re drinking or using drugs by using public transit, having a designated driver, or staying overnight.
