Wrist dialing could be the next type of false 911 call

Police are dealing with a new type of accidental 911 call, the wrist dial.

After a false alarm in Rideau Lakes Township, the OPP is warning people with smart watches to be careful when it comes to accidentally dialing 911.

The OPP says officers responded to an emergency call on Thursday morning. It turns out the caller had accidentally dialled 911 on his smartwatch when he was leaning on the device.

Leeds County OPP Detachment Acting Staff Sergeant Josh Kingsley says watch owners need to be aware of the functions and capabilities of their watch. While some watches can’t make calls, others have the capabilities built into them.
