EQAO responds to Fraser Institute report cards

The Director of Education with the Upper Canada District School Board is welcoming an EQAO response to the annual Fraser Institute report cards.

The Fraser Institute rank more than 3,000 schools based on academic indicators from the annual province wide EQAO test. Director of Education Stephen Silwa says he was pleased to receive a message from the EQAO that reiterated how student assessment results are primarily for improving student achievement, not ranking school performance.

According to the UCDSB the EQAO memorandum stated that the test data is most valuable when used to understand learners’ whole context, that they encourage considering a wide variety of data including trends or special circumstances and that they do not view schools or districts as competing with one another.
