You might be planning a winter vacation, but it’s important to prevent break-ins and thefts from your home while you’re away.
That’s according to the OPP.
Constable Philippe Regamey says you can take steps to prepare your home to deter would-be thieves while you are away, whether it’s for a few weeks or one night.
Regamey says it’s also important to make sure to lock your vehicle’s doors, park in a well-lit area, and hide any valuables.
The OPP recommends letting a friend or neighbour you trust know that you’ll be away.
Tell them where you’re going, how to reach you, how long you’ll be gone, and if anyone else will be at your home.
Constable Regamey says, if you’re the person responsible for someone else’s home while they’re away, it’s important to check for a number of things.
Regamey says it’s important to report any suspicious people to police.
