OPP festive RIDE campaign

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the OPP is launching another year of the Festive RIDE campaign.

The campaign targeting impaired drivers starts tomorrow, and will run through the holidays until January 2nd. Constable Philippe Regamey says this is important to do, as drinking and driving is one of the leading causes of death on Ontario’s roads.

He says impaired drivers who are caught by police can face hefty penalties.

He says, if you’re going to be drinking during the holidays, plan for a safe ride home. Have a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.

Regamey is also calling on everyone to report impaired drivers to be police, just like with any other crime.

If you’re driving, Regamey recommends getting someone else in your vehicle to report any drivers you suspect are impaired to police, or pulling over to make the call. If it’s an emergency, you can call police while driving and won’t be faced with charges.
