The Prescott municipal election isn’t scheduled until late 2018 but preparation is underway.
During this week’s Committee of the Whole meeting Town Clerk Kimberly Casselman made her suggestions on how they should handle phone and internet voting. The use of electronic balloting was approved during a council meeting in April and Casselman suggested continuing their partnership with Intelivote Systems Incorporated. Intelivote provided the same services during the 2014 election.
Prescott was one of nine municipalities to enter a group-rate contract with Intelivote in 2014 and a similar approach is being suggested again. It cost the town $9,750 during the last election and Casselman says she expects this year’s cost to be less because of the group rate.
Casselman adds there will still be paper ballots, and multiple ballot boxes, available for anyone who would like to vote that way. The required hardware, like tablets and laptops, is already owned so there would be no additional cost there. The decision will be finalised at the next council meeting.
