Prescott mom brings back Block Parent child safety program

A Prescott woman is working to bring back a neighbourhood safety program that hasn’t been around in decades. Courtney Bizeau says the Block Parent Program will establish and mark homes where children can find a safe refuge from a bully, a stranger, or any other threat. She says they are looking to approve two homes per street so that if one Block Parent is temporarily unavailable, there will be another within a short distance.

Potential Block Parents will go through a criminal record and vulnerable sector check every two years. Ms. Bizeau will be visiting local schools with Constable Rob Prophet to educate young people so they recognize the Block Parent sign as a safe place. Bizeau says the Block Parent program can also be used by seniors if they find themselves in danger, lost or disoriented.
