House of Lazarus Adopt-a-Family

House of Lazarus is encouraging community members to support the less fortunate this holiday season.

Christmas can be a tough time of year for those living in poverty and the Adopt-a-Family campaign is an opportunity for those with more to give back. Client Services Coordinator Kim Merkley says you can decide whether you want to donate gifts, a Christmas meal or both to the family. There is no dollar amount attached to the program and donors can give whatever fits within their budget.

According to Merkley last year they adopted out over 70 families, seniors and couples. This year there are still around 30 families and 20 couples or individuals in need of adoption. Merkley says roughly 40 per cent of their clients are children and without programs like this they would likely have nothing to open Christmas morning.

Lazarus also runs the Angel Tree program, for people that would rather buy presents for a single child. Angel Tree gifts must be in by the first week in December and adoption baskets cannot be accepted after December 18th.

Anyone interested in getting involved can email [email protected]. Let her know if you’d like to adopt a family, couple or individual so she can forward a wish list with genders and sizes.
