The area’s Member of Parliament has been named to the Security and Intelligence Committee.
Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lake MP Gord Brown says he is honoured to be selected for the newly formed National Security and Intelligence Committee. According to a press release from the Prime Minister’s office the committee will have the power to review intelligence and security activities carried out by the Canadian government. This includes the actions of the RCMP, Canadian Security Intelligence Service, Canada Border Services Agency and many more.
Brown’s office says the multi-party system will have an unprecedented level of review to promote government-wide accountability. The committee provides annual reports to the Prime Minister, as well as special reports when needed. Brown says this is an important committee that mirrors similar groups in Great Britain and the United States.
