Leo Boivin Community Centre Update

During a Committee of the Whole meeting this week the Town of Prescott gave a more detailed explanation of the situation at the Leo Boivin Community Centre.

Councillor Teresa Jansman asked Chief Administrative Officer Pierre Mercier to talk about the arena, specifically whether the safety measures had been put in place. Mercier says they have and that the town has installed air monitors in the main arena and compressor room.  He adds that a chemical engineer looked at the systems and said they were top notch while commending the town on the work that had already been done.

No motion has been put forward yet regarding the arena’s future because council is working diligently to find a phrasing that will be passed unanimously. Mayor Brett Todd says fixing and rebuilding have both been discussed but it’s too early to know which they’ll choose.  There was talk about putting the arena on the capital needs list but this has received some resistance due to the word “needs”.

The town continues to stress an emphasis on transparency and avoiding misinformation while they work toward a decision.  Mayor Todd adds they don’t want to rush into any plan because they need to give staff time to research the best option.
