The Upper Canada Cross Country Championships have drawn to a close and students from Brockville did very well during the final run of the season.
The final race was held on October 19th at Memorial Park in Brockville and a few students used the home trail advantage to take home first place. 8th grade student at Thousand Islands Secondary School Mason Gavin won the boy’s heat and fellow TISS student Claire Cushing won the grade 7 girls heat.
Not to be outdone Brockville Collegiate Institute took home the grade 7 boy’s race when Dylan Butcher crossed the line before any of his fellow runners.
On top of race day victories two girls from Westminster Public School won the overall championships for their grade. Summer Covey is the 2018 Champion amongst grade 5 girls and Mercedez Covey is the fastest girl in the 6th grade. When the day finished Brockville also received top team honours. TISS won the banner for best intermediate team and Westminster Public School was named the top junior team.
According to the Upper Canada District School Board around 1,200 students participated in the races.
