The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario revise their Board Improvement Plan

The Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario is making changes to help students reach their potential.

At the last CDSBEO board meeting the Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement (BIPSA) and Math Strategy Plan were revised. The plan is focused on system thinking that helps the Board as efficient as possible at facilitating student achievement. They do this by setting goals that are; smart, measurable, achievable, results focused and time bound.

Brent Bovaird, Principle of Curriculum, says a key part of the plan is collecting and analysing data, like report cards or EQAO results. He adds that the renewed Math Strategy Board Cycle provides guidance and clarity through collaboration between the Curriculum and Special Education departments. The Board will be continuing their Leaders in the Middle sessions for school math teams; which consist of the principal, a SERT or DI teacher, math lead and thought partner.

For the first time this year a principle advisory committee has been formed from ten principles across the district. The committee is supposed to provide professional development for principles, by principles. Borvaird says each board department annually reviews their priorities, which are then linked to a strategic plan based on the needs of the system. In his opinion creating department actions plans allows the school board to streamline their objectives so faculty are all moving in the same direction.
