Construction continues on Brockville Railway Tunnel

Brockville’s newest tourist attraction is open to the public, even though not all the finishing touches have been added.

Canada’s first railway tunnel was officially opened in mid-August but the town continues to tinker with the attraction. Construction on the tunnel’s North entrance started this week, closing that entrance to visitors until it is completed. During the work the ramp, which exits the gorge area, will be regraded and paved to meet OADA standards. The south entrance will be open to visitors until December 3rd, instead of exiting through the north end patrons will walk back down the tunnel and exit the way they entered.

Groups can book the tunnel for guided tours or special events even during the winter months that the tunnel will be closed to foot traffic. To book a private event contact the Railway Tunnel Committee at [email protected].
