Loyalist Days draws to a close

Prescott has returned to the 21st century.

After spending the weekend reliving life in the 18th century citizens of Prescott woke this morning to find the hundreds of soldiers that had been calling the town home gone. This was the first Loyalist Days in over a decade and drew visitors from both sides of the border.

Some of the groups, like David Manthey and the Crew of the Mabeefarm Bateaux, have a tougher trip than others. The Crew of the Mabeefarm Bateaux consists of seven re-enactors on two, period appropriate, boats. They set off from Kingston for a four-day trip on Tuesday and arrived in Prescott for the festivities on Friday. Manthey and the crew camped on islands along the way.

Manthey said he and his crew were unable to take part in some of the re-enactments because the winds were too high. No announcement yet on whether the Town of Prescott plans to make Loyalist Days an annual affair or if this was a special event to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.
