Update on the new Kemptville Public School

The Upper Canada District School Board has announced the progress they’ve made on the new Kemptville Public School.

Construction on the school began in 2016 using a $13.3 million dollar budget that came from the Ontario Ministry of Education. The school was originally scheduled to open on January 8th of 2018 but due to faster than anticipated construction school board officials now believe the doors may open at the beginning of the school year in September. This timeline is dependent on a new municipal sanitary that services the school being completed and meeting all the criteria required to obtain an occupancy permit.

Jeremy Hobbs, the Superintendent of Human Resources, Information Technology and Facilities, noted that while the sanitary services were originally scheduled for completion by September recently surfacing issues mean this may not be possible. The project is also currently costing less than anticipated and school board officials believe the finished school may come in under budget.

According to the school board the new school was designed to be a showcase for the community and is over 4,000 square meters. Some of the features include; modern classrooms, project and resource rooms adjacent to some classrooms, air conditioning, an open and multi-functional resources space with a stage in addition to a gymnasium and large greenspace. There will also be dedicated busing drop-off and pick-up laneways to make sure all the students attending the school are safe and secure.

Tours of the school, and the official opening date, will be announced in the coming months.
