Health unit reminding residents to watch out for ticks

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit is reminding residents how to protect themselves from ticks during the warmer months.

The health unit says the black-legged tick, also known as the deer tick, is common in our area. Some of these ticks can carry the bacteria responsible for lyme disease.

The health unit says you can reduce ticks around your home by keeping the grass in your yard mowed, by removing brush and fallen leaves from the edges of your property, and by creating a natural physical separation between your yard and any wooded areas by using wood chips or gravel.

The health unit also has tips on how to avoid tick bites. You can find out more by going to this website.
