Prescott and Brockville mayors comment on P&G plant closure

Prescott Mayor Brett Todd and Brockville Mayor David L. Henderson are weighing in on the news of the P&G plant closure.

Brett Todd has taken to Facebook to express his anger at the provincial and federal levels of government. Todd says they are not “doing enough to bolster our economy and keep us competitive with the United States”. Todd also says “we’re crippling ourselves with green energy and carbon taxes while the US is moving back to focus on jobs”.

Meanwhile Henderson says it’s a “shock to the employees and to the city but not fully unexpected”. He says the plant in West Virginia has been in the news for a number of years.

Henderson says they’ll be reaching out to the province to access additional resources to help the employees transition to new employment. He says they’ll also bolster local efforts to attract and retain industry.

It was announced yesterday that the Procter and Gamble plant in Brockville would be closing by 2021 at the latest.
