Anti-Violence Strategies To Be Re-Enforced With New Funding

Anti-violence strategies across the province are about to have their grant funding re-purposed.

Starting on April 1st, new found provincial money will be put towards creating a new Policing Effectiveness and Modernization Grant.

Police Services Board Chair Stan Kijewski says the money will be used to help the Grenville County OPP in specific situations or where more officers are needed without having to take them away from other areas of need.

Kijewski says that despite the change, it doesn’t mean that previous anti-violence policies were not working in communities. He says the funding will help enhance the policies already in place.

The Ministry of Community Safety is hoping the grant provides more outcomes that are in line with the Strategy for a Safer Ontario.
