St. Lawrence College Students To Teach Syrian Newcomers

Students from St. Lawrence College will have the opportunity to teach Syrian newcomers about the Kingston transit system.

The program is hoping that by learning the bus system, the newcomers can integrate more easily with the community and become self sufficient.

The program is made possible by Enactus SLC, a community outreach program at the college. Program General Manager Erick Dow says public transit will be vital for these newcomers to attend language classes, job interviews, and take their kids to and from day care.

40 to 50 Syrian newcomers are expected to take part in the program. St. Lawrence College also has campuses in Brockville and Cornwall.
